When someone gets behind the wheel of a vehicle and gets out on public roads, he or she owes what’s known as a legal duty of care to everyone around him or her who could be affected by the decisions that are made. Those who are protected by this legal duty include those in other vehicles, bicyclists, pedestrians and any passengers in the vehicle itself. Tragically, a passenger paid the ultimate price for being in a vehicle that was involved in a one-car Las Vegas auto accident last night when he lost his life after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
According to reports, the latest fatal Las Vegas auto accident took place at approximately 6 p.m. The crash occurred near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Lake Mead Boulevard in the eastern valley of greater Las Vegas. Police stated that the driver of the vehicle, 22-year-old Johnathon James Murray of Las Vegas was heading south on Hollywood Boulevard when he ran into a water control system.
As a result of this development, Murray lost control of his Mazda and slid off the road, striking a water manifold head-on and leading to an enormous amount of damage to the vehicle. Tragically, the passenger in the vehicle, 20-year-old David Ritzer of Las Vegas, was killed in this Las Vegas auto accident. Murray suffered what was described as moderate injuries but is expected to recover.
Fatal Nevada Auto Accident Statistics
We’d like to extend our condolences to the family of Mr. Ritzer. 20 years old is simply too young to leave this world, and we hope that the family that is surely grieving and struggling with shock is somehow able to come together and move past this tragedy. Every year, approximately 400 people are killed in Nevada auto accidents state-wide, and that number has held steady for some time.
