Henderson DUI Accident Defendant Receives Prison Sentence

We posted last fall in regards to a tragic Las Vegas DUI accident in which a runner taking part in a popular race was hit and killed by a drunk driver from Henderson.  While there were several delays and several months between hearings and a final decision, a sentence was finally handed down yesterday to the man who admitted to being the driver involved in the fatal DUI accident.

According to reports, Joshua Vincent Salayich, 26 asked for leniency in regards to the crash that occurred on October 10 when Salayich’s car went onto the shoulder of the road near Horizon Ridge Parkway and Stephanie Street in Henderson and struck 33-year-old Jeremy Kunz of Kamas, Utah.  Kunz died soon thereafter from the injuries sustained, and witnesses stated that they had to jump out of the way of the car that was clearly out of control.  The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m.

The defendant pleaded guilty to felony DUI causing death in part because he got to avoid additional charges including leaving the scene of an accident.  According to statements, the defendant got out of the car after the crash and asked those who had just witnessed this horrific crash to not call the police.  Evidence indicated that the defendant’s Blood Alcohol Content was more than three times the legal limit.  The judge sentenced the man to 7 – 20 years in prison.

We can only hope that this result allows the family of the innocent runner who was killed to obtain some sort of closure on the matter, as this has certainly been an incredibly difficult situation to endure through absolutely no fault of their own.
