Las Vegas Auto Accident Injures Police Officer, Witness to Prior Accident

Stopping along the side of the freeway can be a dangerous step to take, but if it’s a police officer that’s stopped with lights flashing, it’s rare for an accident to occur.  Recently, that’s exactly what took place when a Nevada Highway Patrolman stopped to investigate the aftermath of a collision on Interstate 15 near the Charleston Boulevard interchange.  Another vehicle slammed into the accident scene, injuring both the police officer and a witness to the previous crash.

Nevada Auto Accident

The Nevada auto accident took place just before 2 a.m. in the left travel lane.  According to reports, the vehicle did not slow down before crashing into the police cruiser, and the force of the impact forced the police vehicle into the vehicle that had been involved in the previous crash.  In addition, the vehicle struck the police officer and the witness, injuring both of them.  Thankfully, the injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Authorities stated that despite the facts surrounding the accident and the time at which it occurred, there was no suspicion regarding the presence of alcohol and no criminal charges were filed at the time.  However, the case has been turned over to the district attorney’s office for additional investigation.  No timetable was given as to when this investigation would be finished.

How Nevada Auto Accident Cases Proceed

In situations like this one, it’s possible that either the police officer, the witness or both could choose to have their legal rights and options analyzed.  While the police officer could have a worker’s compensation issue developing, the witness could have a claim for damages in a Nevada personal injury lawsuit.  However, the result of such a claim would likely depend on several factors.

Given the importance of every fact of a Nevada auto accident, no matter how minor any fact may seem, the best course of action for this person or anyone else who has been injured in such a situation is to contact a Nevada auto accident lawyer who has the experience necessary to provide sound legal advice regarding how to proceed.  If this includes you, contact Jack Bernstein & Associates today to schedule a free initial consultation.
