We often post in regards to traffic accidents in the area that involve high speeds, risky maneuvers and other types of conduct that clearly create an unreasonable risk of injury or worse for other drivers. However, these types of drivers are in the minority, as most people understand the need to drive defensively in order to minimize risks faced by others. However, it’s possible to drive too defensively to the point where the same type of danger is created as when someone is speeding. Driving at dangerously slow rates of speed can cause the same sorts of problems as speeders.
According to Fox 5 Las Vegas:
“Nevada Highway Patrol isn’t expected to be everywhere at once, but a spokesperson told Fox 5 that on some nights, a lack of manpower is to blame for slow response and in one case, none at all.
A Las Vegas couple followed an elderly woman driving 25 mph on the 215 Beltway, recording the incident on a cell phone for 12 miles as traffic whizzed by at normal speeds.
“That night we only had eight troopers on to cover the whole valley,” Trooper Joseph Fackrell told Fox 5.
The couple recording the slow driver stayed behind her with their hazard lights on in an attempt to prevent an accident. They called 911 to report the woman, but a trooper did not respond.
“I just don’t understand how nobody can respond to this, when seriously somebody’s going to die,” said the driver, Paul Coleman. “To me, NHP was kind of like ‘let’s wait for an accident to happen.’”
