Las Vegas 2010 Traffic Accident Fatality Statistic Continues to Rise

Simply put, it has not been a good year already in Las Vegas when it comes to traffic-related fatalities.  The city had already seen 12 people die in the area since January 1st in different types of traffic accidents, and yet another person was killed yesterday.  In the latest instance, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle as he crossed the road, although it appears that the pedestrian was not using a crosswalk.

According to the Las Vegas Sun:

“A pedestrian was killed late Monday when he entered the path of a car and was struck in the eastern Las Vegas Valley, authorities said.

Metro Police responded at 7:20 p.m. to the incident on East Desert Inn Road west of South Mojave Road. Investigators said the pedestrian, identified as a 53-year-old Las Vegas man, was jaywalking southbound across Desert Inn.

Police said the pedestrian got into the path of an eastbound 1997 Ford Thunderbird and was struck. The man was taken to University Medical Center’s trauma unit, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said.”

Generally, when a pedestrian violates traffic regulations, he or she will be seen as negligent and could lead to an absence of liability for the driver of the vehicle.  However, that is not always the case and the ultimate fault in a situation always depends on the facts that surround it.
