Perhaps it’s the time of year. Perhaps it’s the attraction that is Las Vegas. Regardless of the reason even if there is one that could be named above any others, we have to report on yet another tragic traffic death at the hands of another suspected drunk driver in the area. This time, the crash occurred between a DUI suspect and a pedestrian, and unfortunately, tragedies like this one seem to be continuing to occur.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal:
“A driver accused of being drunk struck and killed a pedestrian Wednesday evening on Desert Inn Road near Las Vegas Boulevard.
Las Vegas police said the driver, Mahmoud Alseidamad of Las Vegas was driving a 1995 Honda Civic west on Desert Inn, east of Channel 8 Drive, when he changed lanes and lost control of the car.
The car went onto the sidewalk on the north side of the street at 5:22 p.m. and struck two men — a 56-year-old man from Celebration, Fla., and 60-year-old Willard Hilborn of Rancho Mirage, Calif.
The Florida man, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hilborn was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.”
The driver was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention center on suspicion of felony DUI resulting in death. Clearly, these are serious charges, as they should be. However, this does not preclude the pursuit of justice within the civil court system.
