Woman Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver

We have all seen the stories and heard the messages regarding the dangers of drinking and driving over the years.  While almost any effort to curb this dangerous practice is worthwhile, the unfortunate and unavoidable truth is that this work in regards to public awareness has not eliminated the problem of drunk driving in Las Vegas or anywhere else.  Tragically, we were reminded of this reality once again over the weekend as a suspected drunk driver hit and killed the driver of a different vehicle.

According to the Las Vegas Sun:

“An 18-year-old Las Vegas man was arrested in connection with driving under the influence this morning after a crash that left a 24-year-old woman dead.

Metro Police responded at 1:13 a.m. to the crash at the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Flamingo Road. Investigators said a Pontiac Sunfire was making a left turn from eastbound Flamingo to northbound Rainbow on a green traffic signal.

A Dodge pickup truck southbound on Rainbow then failed to stop for a red traffic signal, colliding with the left side of the Pontiac, police said.

The 24-year-old woman driving the Pontiac was taken to University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, police said.”

The driver of the pickup truck was not injured, although a passenger in his vehicle suffered minor injuries.  The man was arrested on suspicion of two counts of felony DUI with alcohol.  While these are obviously very serious criminal charges that could carry a substantial term of incarceration if he is convicted, it does not eliminate the possibility that the family members of the woman who was killed have legal rights and options in civil court.

If you have lost someone you love because of the actions of a drunk driver, you need to seek the help of a Las Vegas wrongful death attorney who understands how to hold those responsible for these senseless tragedies accountable.  Contact Jack Bernstein & Associates today to schedule a free initial consultation.
